The Boston Haifa Life Sciences Initiative (BHLSI) recently held
its 3rd annual CEO BioBusiness Delegation & Bioentrepreneurship Seminar
in Boston. Michal
Lotem, BHLSI's business development
manager, sent us this summary.
|
Over the course of the three-day conference, the CEOs
who arrived in Boston each had 10-15 one-on-one targeted meetings with angel
and venture investors, potential strategic partners, and scientific and medical
opinion leaders.
The nine participating companies were BioAim, BioHug, BrainTech,
Hernia Solutions, ImmunArray, JetGuide, Keren Medical, Minimally Invasive Mastopexy,
and UltraSurge. [ImmunArray is a MarketReach
America Life Sciences & Medical
Devices 2007 company. JetGuide is a portfolio company in the Misgav
Venture Accelerator.]

| Bringing Out the Experts |
Prior to the meetings, all the CEOs participated in a "Best
Practices" session provided by top industry and academic experts of
the U.S. life sciences sector. There were also a number of receptions, including
a gathering at the Boston Museum of Science that brought together 200 life
science leaders.
BHLSI Faculty included leading Boston investors; senior company representatives
from Boston Scientific, Covidien (formerly Tyco), BiogenIdec, Infinity Pharmaceuticals
and other major biotech and medical device companies; medical experts at local
Harvard hospitals, including the Brigham & Women's Hospital; licensing officials
from Harvard Univertisy, business experts from Ernst & Young Global Biotechnology
Center; academic leaders in entrepreneurship from MIT and Boston University;
among many others.
Participants were astonished at the benefits they received, all formed significant
connections, and some already, while in Boston, secured important collaborations.

| What They Had To Say about the Conference |
D. Todd Dollinger, Chairman of JetGuide and CEO of T.I.F. Ventures,
stated that "Without exception, I found value in my meetings .... I have
established new and important relationships."
According to Marina Tsadkin-Tamir,
CEO of BioAim, "Those five days were the most interesting I have
experienced in my professional life. I met the leading specialists in
the field in which my company is engaged. I believe that BHSLI is a very
important program for Israeli life science companies at all levels of
development."
Eli Sahar, CEO of ImmunArray, stated, "Thank you again for the wonderful
and exciting week I had in Boston. It was way beyond my expectations and I am
certain that the contacts I made will bear fruit, as already has. [BHLSI] really
did a wonderful job in organizing the event to the last detail and in making
sure that everything runs smoothly. I am really grateful, as I know are all the
other participants."
According to Robin JR Blatt, BHLSI Director, "The BHLSI CEOs made a terrific
impression in Boston and many of the investors and strategic alliance partners
that we brought to the table are reviewing the companies for financing and joint
research activities. Building these relationships takes time and the connections
that we make via BHLSI are essential for Israeli companies who need to know their
market from day one of development."
Avi Faigenbaum, MATI Haifa CEO, "BHLSI is now accepting applications for
2008. Selected companies will have the opportunity to present to Boston and Israeli
investors at the BHLSI BioSeminar and CEO Roundtable that will be held on Monday,
March 17th, and be part of an expanded US delegation in the Fall."
The BHLSI B2B delegation was organized by Combined Jewish Philanthropies and
MATI Haifa with sponsorship from the Haifa Municipality; ZAG-S&W; Ernst & Young
Global Biotechnology Center; and MOITI.
