The Trendlines Group — March 2006 Trendletter
Vol. 8   No. 3 March 2006
FROM THE TOP: Jumping through Hoops
At The Trendlines Group we are always lecturing ourselves and others about the importance of listening to feedback from the market, so what I am about to say may seem, at first, to be flying in the face of this important advice: Over the years I have come to believe that you cannot let investors make you or your company jump through too many hoops. What do I mean?

As your company moves forward, every potential investor you meet wants to prove that he or she is smarter than you, both to lower your valuation and just for fun. How do they do this? By telling you what is wrong with your business plan, your product, your business model, and your work plan. The problem is that every investor you meet with will identify different problems.

While it is certainly important to listen to feedback from every source and to check yourself, your data, and your assumptions, all this advice needs to be taken collectively so that you can reach your own conclusions to determine the course of action.

Do not run and change your business plan after every presentation.

Do question your assumptions and conclusions at every opportunity. Use the investor feedback as an opportunity to re-evaluate your business plan and to improve your presentation.

- Steve Rhodes, Chairman

FROM THE TOP: Trendletter Readers Respond
Last month's From the Top, "Speaking the Same Language," sparked some interesting responses from Trendletter readers.

One sharp-eyed reader called to say, "I really enjoyed this month's From the Top, but I looked at your glossary to see the definition of broker [mentioned in the column] and discovered it wasn't there." Good point! We've added broker to our business glossary.

Another reader wrote to share what it means to "speak the same language" in his company.

WELCOME TO TRENDLINES: Maura Rosenfeld
The Trendlines Group is pleased to welcome Maura Rosenfeld to the team. Maura will be identifying and pursuing business development opportunities for the Group.

Before joining Trendlines, Maura led her own consulting business (M. Rosenfeld Consulting). For seven years prior to that, she served as general counsel and corporate secretary for RiT Technologies Ltd. (a member of the RAD Group) in Tel Aviv.

"I am excited about joining and working with the quality team at The Trendlines Group, and I look forward to exploring new business opportunities for Israeli companies."

Maura will be based in the Tel Aviv area, where she lives. She can be reached at 050 877-7012.

Homeland Security Solicitation
Chris Cushing, U.S. homeland security expert, reminds us that in the next week the U.S. government Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) will release solicitations for up to $75 million in homeland security/first responder research. Chris says, "Israel is one of only three foreign countries with which TSWG has an agreement."
