This article was published by Globes [online] (July 21, 2004). Repinted with permission.

The five start-up companies are dsIT Technologies, Jetro Platforms, Share-Manage, TeleCont Communications, and WizCom Technologies.

Five Israeli start-up companies have been selected to participate in this year's MarketReach America program, Information, Communication and Electronic Technology (MarketReach America ICET). The purpose of the program is to help the selected Israeli companies learn what they need to do in order to bring their products and technologies to the US market.

MarketReach America ICET 2004 is a partnership of the Maryland Israel Development Center (MIDC) and the Trendlines group. Major support for the program is provided by a grant from the United States Israel Science and Technology Foundation (USISTF). Additional support is provided by the State of Maryland, the Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore (called "The Associated"), and the Kesher Fund.

MIDC received a $116,000 grant to run the program for life science companies from the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Foundation, an alliance between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor that funds projects to foster scientific, technological and economic cooperation between the United States and Israel. The Maryland center also received a grant for $150,000 to run a similar program for other kinds of Israeli high tech companies later this year.

The five companies are dsIT Technologies, Jetro Platforms, Share-Manage Inc., TeleCont Communications Ltd., and WizCom Technologies.

dsIT Technologies has developed a sonar system that protects critical coastal and offshore sites through detecting, tracking, and warning about unauthorized divers and submerged vehicles. The company is located in Givat Shmuel.

Jetro Platforms' software products offer enterprises a low-cost, effective means to access, manage, and secure their server-based computing networks. Jetro targets enterprises with 50 to 5,000 PC users. The company is based in Jerusalem.

Share-Manage Inc. has developed Micro-Server, a software utility that allows applications installed in different computers to "talk" to each other in securely. Share-Manage's offices are in Misgav.

TeleCont Communications Ltd. develops proprietary content, services, and applications for the communications market. The company is based in Tel Aviv.

WizCom Technologies is developing a next-generation series of reading tools based on the company's "scan and attain" technology. WizCom has offices in Jerusalem.

The three stage program includes an intensive five-day in-residence strategy and planning meeting in Maryland covering the key US market entry issues. In the second stage, MarketReach America works with the companies in Israel to prepare for their market launch. In the third stage, a week-long road show organized by MarketReach America consultants, provides a venue for meetings with executives, including potential strategic partners, investors, and customers.

The MIDC promotes trade, joint ventures, and investment between Maryland and Israeli businesses and research institutions. It is a non-profit partnership between the State of Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and The Associated.

Trendlines specialize in negotiating and brokering business deals between American and Israeli companies. Through the MIDC, Trendlines represents the State of Maryland in Israel for the promotion of bilateral trade and investment.

The USISTF is the funding and administrative arm of the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Commission (USISTC), a bilateral commission established by the United States Department of Commerce and the Israel Ministry of Industry and Trade in 1994 to foster scientific, technological, and economic cooperation between the peoples of the United States and Israel.
