Bayer logoThe Bayer Trendlines Ag Innovation Fund was established in April 2016 as a collaborative partnership between The Trendlines Group and the Bayer Crop Science division of Bayer AG to invest in agricultural technologies. The partnership agreement includes a $10 million investment from Bayer, which is managed by Trendlines. Bayer’s decades of experience in agricultural science, innovation and regulatory affairs, alongside Trendlines’ specialization in investing in innovative, early-stage medical and agricultural technologies, form the base of this strong alliance.

Israel is a hot spot of innovation, and with Trendlines as our partner we can identify novel agtech solutions to help shape the future of farming.

— Bob Reiter, Head of Research and Development, Bayer Crop Science

  • In July 2019, the Fund made its second investment: EcoPhage is a Trendlines Agtech portfolio company focused on disruptive technology for using viruses that attack bacteria (bacteriophages) for crop protection. The technology was developed by Professor Rotem Sorek of Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science.
  • The Fund’s first investment was in IBI-Ag, a company developing innovative biological solutions for insect control. IBI-Ag joined Trendlines Agtech as a portfolio company in 2018. Bayer defined the need and ideation, which was scouted and established by Trendlines, including recruiting the team, providing the facilities, and founding the company.

Together, the Fund and Trendlines have initiated two acceleration programs to evaluate premature technologies for advancement into the incubator program. The Fund is currently actively evaluating additional investment opportunities.
